Debian Edu LTSP-Server packages

iptables is the userspace command line program used to configure the Linux packet filtering and NAT ruleset. It is targeted towards systems and networks administrators.

iPXE is network boot firmware. It supports a variety of network cards, including some wireless cards, and variety of network protocols (traditional DHCP, BOOTP and TFTP and also HTTP, iSCSI, SAN via FCoE and Infiniband). It supports scripting.

It is possible to use iPXE as a PXE ROM in the network card or to chainload it from other boot methods.

This package provides boot code for all supported network cards in one binary and several bootable formats.

This is the server from the Internet Software Consortium's implementation of DHCP.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol like BOOTP (actually dhcpd includes much of the functionality of bootpd). It gives client machines "leases" for IP addresses and can automatically set their network configuration.

This is the DHCP server with LDAP patches applied to it.

Make an installation able to netboot as an LTSP client. For LTSP servers, also install the suggested packages (dnsmasq etc).

LTSP helps in netbooting LAN clients from a single installation that resides in a chroot or a VM on the LTSP server. This way maintaining tens or hundreds of clients is as easy as maintaining a single PC.

Plugins for nagios compatible monitoring systems like Naemon and Icinga. It contains the following plugins:

This package provides the suite of plugins that are most likely to be useful on a central monitoring host. Some scripts need more packages installed to work, which is implemented as recommends.

Nagios is a host/service/network monitoring and management system.

The purpose of this addon is to allow you to execute Nagios plugins on a remote host in as transparent a manner as possible.

This program runs as a background process on the remote host and processes command execution requests from the check_nrpe plugin on the Nagios host.

El servidor de NFS del núcleo es el que se recomienda actualmente para usarse con Linux, con características como NFSv3 y NFSv4, capacidad de usar Kerberos a través de GSS y muchas más. Es significativamente más rápido y normalmente más confiable que los servidores de NFS en espacio de usuario (de los paquetes unfs3 y nfs-user-server). No obstante, es más difícil de depurar que los servidores en espacio de usuario, y tiene un conjunto de características ligeramente distinto.

Este paquete contiene las partes necesarias del espacio de usuario para poder usar el servidor de NFS del núcleo. La mayoría de los administradores que quieran montar un servidor de NFS querrían instalar este paquete.

Rdiff-backup hace una copia de seguridad de un directorio a otro, posiblemente a través de una red. El directorio objetivo es una copia del directorio fuente, pero se guardan diffs extra en un subdirectorio especial, de forma que pueda recuperar los archivos perdidos tiempo atrás. La idea es combinar las mejores características de un espejo y una copia de seguridad creciente. Rdiff-backup también conserva los subdirectorios, «hard links», archivos dev, permisos, uid/gid de la propiedad, fechas de modificación, atributos extendidos, acls y los «forks» de recursos

Además, rdiff-backup puede operar de forma eficiente con el ancho de banda a través de una tubería o «pipe» al igual que rsync. Así, se puede emplear rdiff-backup y ssh para hacer una copia de seguridad de forma segura de un disco duro a una ubicación remota, y solo se transmitirán las diferencias. Por último, es sencillo usar rdiff-backup y los ajustes tienen parámetros establecidos por omisión.

Squashfs is a highly compressed read-only filesystem for Linux. It uses zlib compression to compress both files, inodes and directories. Inodes in the system are very small and all blocks are packed to minimise data overhead. Block sizes greater than 4K are supported up to a maximum of 64K.

Squashfs is intended for general read-only filesystem use, for archival use (i.e. in cases where a .tar.gz file may be used), and in constrained block device/memory systems (e.g. embedded systems) where low overhead is needed.

Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) is a file transfer protocol, mainly to serve boot images over the network to other machines (PXE).

tftp-hpa is an enhanced version of the BSD TFTP client and server. It possesses a number of bugfixes and enhancements over the original.

This package contains the server.

VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is, in essence, a remote display system which allows you to view a computing `desktop' environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine architectures.

This package provides a server to which X clients can connect and the server generates a display that can be viewed with a vncviewer.

The difference between the tightvncserver and the normal vncserver is the data encoding, optimized for low bandwidth connections. If the client do not support jpeg or zlib encoding it can use the default one. Later versions of vncserver (> 3.3.3r2) support a new automatic encoding that should be equally good as the tightvnc encoding.

Note: This server does not support or need a display. You need a vncviewer to see something. However, this viewer may also be on a computer running other operating systems in the local net.

X2Go is a server based computing environment with

• session resuming
• low bandwidth support
• session brokerage support
• client-side mass storage mounting support
• client-side printing support
• audio support
• authentication by smartcard and USB stick

This package contains the main daemon and tools for X2Go server-side session administrations.

xrdp offers a graphical login to a remote client using RDP (the Remote Desktop Protocol). xrdp can connect to a locally created X.org session with the xorgxrdp drivers, to a VNC X11 server, and forward to another RDP server.

xrdp accepts connections from freerdp, rdesktop, and the built-in terminal server / remote desktop clients of Microsoft Windows operating systems. In the xorgxrdp (which replaces X11RDP) and VNC modes, it provides a fully functional Linux terminal server, offering an X-Window desktop to the user. In the RDP or VNC forwarding mode, any sort of desktop can be used.
