Udostępnia dużą kolekcję profesjonalnych narzędzi edycyjnych i filtrów, podobnych do tych, które można znaleźć w programie Photoshop. Oferuje wiele ustawień oraz funkcji zapewniających pełną kontrolę nad obrazami, w tym warstwy, ścieżki, maski oraz skrypty.

Obsługiwanych jest wiele formatów plików graficznych m.in. pliki JPEG, pliki programów Photoshop (.psd) i Paint Shop Pro (.psp). GIMP może być również używany do skanowania i drukowania zdjęć.

Aby otwierać pliki zdalne (np. za pośrednictwem protokołu HTTP), należy zainstalować pakiet gvfs-backends.

Aby używać urządzenia MIDI (takiego jak muzyczna klawiatura) w charakterze kontrolera wejścia w GIMP-ie, należy zainstalować bibliotekę libasound2 i zapoznać się z instrukcjami znajdującymi się w /usr/share/doc/gimp/ README.MIDI.

• separate+ (0.5.8): Separate+ Separate+ is a plug-in that generates color separations from an RGB image, proofs CMYK colors on the monitor and exports the CMYK TIFF file.

• streak (0.6): Streak-Camera simulation A streak camera images an object through a slit - thus getting a "one dimensional image". This image is propagated along the second dimension of the image plane at a constant speed. The result is a picture of the time dependency of the object.
• traditional-orton: Traditional Orton: This is an effect invented by Michael Orton in the 1990s, which consists of taking two copies of an image, one blurred, and one sharp, and mixing them to produce an image with a dreamy quality. It is especially well suited to landscape and flower photography.
• wavelet-decompose (0.1.2): Wavelet Decompose The wavelet decompose plugin decomposes a layer of an image into layers of wavelet scales. This means that you can edit the image on different detail scales (frequencies). The trivial recomposition of the image can be done by GIMP's layer modes so you can see the results of your modifications instantly. Among the applications are retouching, noise reduction, and enhancing global contrast.
• wavelet-denoise (0.3.1): Wavelet Denoise The wavelet denoise plugin is a tool to selectively reduce noise in individual channels of an image with optional RGB<->YCbCr conversion. It has a user interface to adjust the amount of denoising applied. The wavelet nature of the algorithm makes the processing quite fast.

Graficzne narzędzie do importowania danych w formacie RAW z nowoczesnych aparatów do GIMP-a.

Unidentified Flying Raw (UFRaw) jest narzędziem do konwersji i manipulacji obrazami RAW z aparatów cyfrowych. Może być użyty jako samodzielne narzędzie lub wtyczka GIMP-a, obrazy można też przetwarzać wsadowo używając interfejsu wiersza poleceń. Shutter jest bogato wyposażonym programem do wykonywania zrzutów ekranu. Agave jest bardzo prostą aplikacją dla środowiska GNOME, która pozwala na generowanie różnych schematów kolorystycznych z każdego koloru bazowego.

Blender jest zintegrowanym pakietem narzędziowym służącym do trójwymiarowego modelowania, animacji, renderingu, postprodukcji, interaktywnego tworzenia i odtwarzania (gier). Blender dysponuje własnym, wyjątkowym interfejsem użytkownika, stworzonym w całości w oparciu o OpenGL i zaprojektowanym z myślą o szybkości. Wiązania Pythona dostępne są do obsługi skryptów; funkcje importu/eksportu popularnych formatów plików jak 3D Studio i Wavefront OBJ zostały zaimplementowane przez społeczność jako skrypty. Fotosy, animacje, modele dla gier, silniki spoza projektu oraz interaktywne treści w postaci niezależnych plików binarnych są powszechnymi produktami używania Blendera.

Enblend is a tool for compositing images. Given a set of images that overlap in some irregular way, Enblend overlays them in such a way that the seam between the images is invisible, or at least very difficult to see. It can, for example, be used to blend a panorama composed of several images.

It uses a Burt & Adelson multi-resolution spline. This technique tries to make the seams between the input images invisible. The basic idea is that image features should be blended across a transition zone proportional in size to the spatial frequency of the features. For example, objects like trees and windowpanes have rapid changes in color. By blending these features in a narrow zone, you will not be able to see the seam because the eye already expects to see color changes at the edge of these features. Clouds and sky are the opposite. These features have to be blended across a wide transition zone because any sudden change in color will be immediately noticeable.

Enblend does not align images for you. Use a tool like Hugin or PanoTools to do this. The TIFFs produced by these programs are exactly what Enblend is designed to work with.

F-Spot jest w pełni funkcjonalną aplikacją do zarządzania prywatnymi zdjęciami w środowisku GNOME. Upraszcza cyfrową fotografię poprzez dostarczenie intuicyjnych narzędzi pomocnych w udostępnianiu, retuszu, wyszukiwaniu i porządkowaniu zdjęć. Pozwala on na importowanie istniejących kolekcji zdjęć, dodawanie zdjęciom etykiet, jak również na prostą ich edycję (np. obracanie).

Poza tym, że jest edytorem fontów, FontForge może również dokonywać konwersji pomiędzy ich następującymi formatami: PostScript (ASCII i binarnymi Type 1, niektórymi Type 3 i Type O), TrueType, OpenType (Type 2), CID, SVG, CFF i Multiple Masters.

fontmatrix is a manager built with the kind of features and abilities graphic designers, layout professionals along with others have felt necessary, but modernized with some new touches.

Fontmatrix has a concept of 'tagging'. This makes it really nice to group fonts and even sub-group them logically for use in a book for instance. It also has extensive gui support for showing all glyphs in a font, previews of sample text, variable sizing and also tells what kinds of advanced Open Type features are inside each font. These features have never been seen outside of a font editor. And not least, it creates a nice PDF catalogue of user's fonts for printing or reference. In short, fontmatrix is a font manager for professionals, but is nice and user friendly.

Hugin jest programem do łączenia zdjęć w panoramę. W gruncie rzeczy, Hugin jest graficznym interfejsem użytkownika do Panorama Tools. Łączenie kilku zachodzących na siebie zdjęć, zrobionych z tego samego miejsca, w jeden większy obraz jest realizowane poprzez ich przekształcanie i wyrównywanie do utworzonych punktów kontrolnych. Hugin umożliwia łatwe tworzenie punktów kontrolnych pomiędzy dwoma zdjęciami, optymalizację przekształcania grafik itd.

Pakiet zawiera następujące nakładki graficzne, używające narzędzi wiersza poleceń zawartych w pakiecie hugin-tools:

• hugin - program tworzący panoramy - Hugin,
• hugin_stitch_project - wsadowy program łączący - Hugin,
• PTBatcherGUI - wsadowy program kontrolny do procesu łączenia,
• calibrate_lens_gui - narzędzie do kalibracji obiektywu.

Inkscape is an illustration editor which has everything needed to create professional-quality computer art. You can use it to make diagrams and illustrations, technical drawings, web graphics, clip art, icons and logos. A collection of hands-on tutorials show you how to combine lines, shapes and text of different types and styles to build up a picture.

A selection of powerful vector graphics editing tools comes as standard. There is excellent support for paths, gradients, layers, alpha transparency and text flow control. An extensive library of filters allow you to apply realistic effects and extensions allow you to work with bitmaps, barcodes and printing marks, amongst other things.

Most of the common vector formats are supported, including PDF, Adobe Illustrator and AutoCAD files, and it has unrivalled support for the SVG web graphics standard.

Between the suggested packages:

• dia: to export Dia shapes;
• libsvg-perl: to import .txt files (txt2svg extension);
• libxml-xql-perl: to use the shadow effect;
• python-uniconvertor: enables several import/export extensions;
• pstoedit: to work with eps files;
• ruby: there are several extensions written in ruby;

Scribus supports professional DTP features, such as CMYK color and a color management system to soft proof images for high quality color printing, flexible PDF creation options, Encapsulated PostScript import/export and creation of 4 color separations, import of EPS/PS and SVG as native vector graphics, Unicode text including right to left scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew via freetype. Graphic formats which can be placed in Scribus as images include PDF, Encapsulated Post Script (eps), TIFF, JPEG, PNG and XPixMap(xpm), and any bitmap type supported by QT4.

If you need to use the render frame install the texlive-latex-recommended package (suggested).

Yafray (Yet Another Free RAYtracer) is an advanced raytracing rendering system with many modern features including full radiosity and High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI) for scene lighting. It reads a simple XML-based scene definition file, and can be used as a renderer for Blender.
