GIMP is an advanced picture editor. You can use it to edit, enhance, and retouch photos and scans, create drawings, and make your own images. It has a large collection of professional-level editing tools and filters, similar to the ones you might find in Photoshop. Numerous fine-control settings and features like layers, paths, masks, and scripting give you total control over your images.

Many image file formats are supported, including JPEG, Photoshop (.psd), and Paint Shop Pro (.psp) files. It can also be used to scan and print photos.

To open files remotely (like over HTTP), install the gvfs-backends package.

To use a MIDI device (like a musical keyboard) as an input controller in GIMP, install libasound2 and read the how-to at /usr/share/doc/gimp/README.MIDI

The GIMP Animation Package (GAP) is a collection of plug-ins to extend the GIMP with capabilities to edit and create animations and movies as sequences of single frames. It adds a Video menu to image windows in the GIMP.

  • Antique Photo Border Script: This script simulates a yellowed and slightly jagged border like these of old photographies.
  • Che Guevara Script: This script generates a poster like the famous Che Guevara one from Jim Fitzpatrick.
  • Cyanotype Script: This script simulates the Cyanotype printing process.
  • Difference Layer Script This script generates two difference layers from the two layers on the top. It's similar to GIMP's built-in Grain Extract/Merge function, but the tonal range is bigger. Now you can apply further editing and "switch on/off" the adjustment by switching the visibility of the subtractive and the additive layer. Also you can change the modification intensity by changing the intensity of these two layers.
  • Erosion Sharpen: Sharpens the image with erosion and dilation.
  • Escape Line Script: This script creates escaping lines from any point. It's similar in function to the built-in Line-Nova Script, but much more flexible. So you can chose the center, the thickness, the angle, the length, the offset and the randomness.
  • Film Grain Script: This is yet another script which simulates the typical film grain of high ISO pictures.

• planet-render (1-2): Planet Render Creates a planet. Color, size and sun orientation can be set.
• refocus (0.9.1): Refocus The GIMP plugin to refocus images using FIR Wiener filtering. During image processing operations such as scanning and scaling, images tend to get blurry. The blurred impression of these images is due to the fact that image pixels are averaged with their neighbors. Blurred images don't have sharp boundaries and look as though they have been taken with an unfocused camera.
• resynthesizer (2.0): Resynthesizer Gimp plugin for texture synthesis This gimp plugin takes samples of textures, and synthesizes larger textures from them. It can be used to extend textures (including making tileable textures), remove objects from textures, and make themed images.
• safe-for-web (0.29.0): Save for Web Allows to experiment with various popular web format options. It shows an automatically updated preview and file size statistics.
• separate+ (0.5.8): Separate+ Separate+ is a plug-in that generates color separations from an RGB image, proofs CMYK colors on the monitor and exports the CMYK TIFF file.
• smart-seperate-sharpen (2.8): Smart Seperate Sharpening This script implements a new version of smart sharpening (redux) combined with separate sharpen to give better results. You can find more about Smart Sharpening at http://www.gimpguru.org/Tutorials/SmartSharpening2/
• streak (0.6): Streak-Camera simulation A streak camera images an object through a slit - thus getting a "one dimensional image". This image is propagated along the second dimension of the image plane at a constant speed. The result is a picture of the time dependency of the object.
• traditional-orton: Traditional Orton: This is an effect invented by Michael Orton in the 1990s, which consists of taking two copies of an image, one blurred, and one sharp, and mixing them to produce an image with a dreamy quality. It is especially well suited to landscape and flower photography.
• wavelet-decompose (0.1.2): Wavelet Decompose The wavelet decompose plugin decomposes a layer of an image into layers of wavelet scales. This means that you can edit the image on different detail scales (frequencies). The trivial recomposition of the image can be done by GIMP's layer modes so you can see the results of your modifications instantly. Among the applications are retouching, noise reduction, and enhancing global contrast.
• wavelet-denoise (0.3.1): Wavelet Denoise The wavelet denoise plugin is a tool to selectively reduce noise in individual channels of an image with optional RGB<->YCbCr conversion. It has a user interface to adjust the amount of denoising applied. The wavelet nature of the algorithm makes the processing quite fast.

Tento grafický nástroj vám umožní importovat surová data z high-end fotoaparátů do Gimpu.

Nástroj UFRaw (Unidentified Flying Raw) je nástroj sloužící ke konverzi a manipulaci se soubory raw digitálních fotoaparátů. Je ho možno použít jako samostatný nástroj nebo jako plug-in Gimpu a umožňuje také dávkové zpracování přímo z příkazové řádky. UFRaw čte většinu běžně dostupných formátů raw pomocí konverzního nástroje Dava Coffina DCRaw a přitom podporuje základní správu barev pomocí Little CMS, uživatelům umožňuje používat barevné profily.

Shutter is a feature-rich screenshot program. You can take a screenshot of a specific area, window, your whole screen, or even of a website - apply different effects to it, draw on it to highlight points, and then upload to an image hosting site, all within one window.

Features:

Agave je velmi jednoduchá aplikace určená pro desktop GNOME, která vám umožní generovat různá barevná schémata z jedné jediné počáteční barvy.

Blender je integrovaný balík 3d aplikací pro modelování, animace, rendering, post-produkci, interaktivní tvorbu a playback (hry). Blender má své vlastní zvláštní uživatelské rozhraní, které je implementováno výhradně v OpenGL a navrženo s důrazem na rychlost. K dispozici je provázání s Pythonem pro skriptování; funkce pro import / export populárních formátů souborů, jako je 3D Studio a Wavefront Obj, jsou realizovány pomocí skriptů od komunity. Běžnými výtvory Blenderu jsou záběry, animace, modely pro hry nebo jiné enginy třetích stran a interaktivní obsah ve formě samostatných binárních souborů.

Enblend je nástroj určený ke spojení obrázků. Program zpracuje obrázky, které se určitým způsobem překrývají a spojí je tak, že budou mezery mezi obrázky prakticky neviditelné. Program je možno např. použít pro vytvoření panoramat z různých obrázků.

Program používá Burt & Adelsonovu křivku. tato technika vám umožní spojit obrázky bez viditelných mezer. Základní myšlenka spočívá v určitých propozičních vlastnostech části obrázku vzhledem ke zbytku. Např. takový objekt jako je strom a výplně oken jsou těmi objekty, které rychle mění barvu. Mícháním těchto částí v omezené ploše, nepoznáte spoj, protože lidské oko očekává změnu barvy v krajích tohoto objektu. Mraky a obloha je naopak jiná. Ty je nutno spojit v co nejširším měřítku, protože jakákoliv změna barvy bude snadno zjistitelná.

Enblend za vás obrázky neuspořádá. K tomu je potřeba takový nástroj jako Hugin nebo PanoTools. Vytvořené obrázky TIFF jsou přesně ty, se kterými pracuje i Enblend.

F-Spot je pokročilá aplikace určená ke správě osobních fotografií v desktopovém prostředí GNOME. Zjednodušuje práce s digitálními fotografiemi a pomáhá vám se sdílením, úpravou, vyhledávání a organizováním vašich obrázků.

Besides being a font editor, FontForge is also a font format converter, and can convert among PostScript (ASCII & binary Type 1, some Type 3s, some Type 0s), TrueType, and OpenType (Type2), CID-keyed, SVG, CFF and multiple-master fonts.

This package also provides these programs and utilities:

 fontimage - produce a font thumbnail image;
 fontlint  - checks the font for certain common errors;
 sfddiff   - compare two font files.

fontmatrix je správce navržený tak, aby uspokojil potřeby grafických návrhářů, návrhářů stránek a dalších profesionálů, modernizovaný několika změnami.

Fontmatrix ovládá koncept „značkování“. To se hodí především u skupin písem a jejich podskupin, které se používají např. v knihách. Program pro zobrazování všech znaků a písem používá grafiku, náhled provádí na ukázkovém textu, umožňuje změnu velikosti a také informuje o tom, které druhy pokročilých voleb Open Type byly použity v každém písmu. Tyto volby nebyly nikdy v jiném editoru písma k vidění. A konečně, program umí vytvářet pěkné PDF katalogy uživatelských písem vhodné pro referenční tisk. V krátkosti, fontmatrix je správce písma určený pro profesionály, je pěkný a uživatelsky přívětivý.

Hugin is a panorama photo stitching program. Essentially, Hugin is a GUI frontend for Panorama Tools. Stitching is accomplished by using several overlapping photos taken from the same location, and using control points to align and transform the photos so that they can be blended together to form a larger image. Hugin allows for the easy creation of control points between two images, optimization of the image transforms, and much more.

This package includes the following graphical interfaces, using the command-line tools provided in the hugin-tools package:

• hugin - Hugin panorama creator.
• hugin_stitch_project - Hugin batch stitcher.
• PTBatcherGUI - Batch controller for the stitching process.
• calibrate_lens_gui - Lens calibration tool.

Inkscape is an illustration editor which has everything needed to create professional-quality computer art. You can use it to make diagrams and illustrations, technical drawings, web graphics, clip art, icons and logos. A collection of hands-on tutorials show you how to combine lines, shapes and text of different types and styles to build up a picture.

A selection of powerful vector graphics editing tools comes as standard. There is excellent support for paths, gradients, layers, alpha transparency and text flow control. An extensive library of filters allow you to apply realistic effects and extensions allow you to work with bitmaps, barcodes and printing marks, amongst other things.

Most of the common vector formats are supported, including PDF, Adobe Illustrator and AutoCAD files, and it has unrivalled support for the SVG web graphics standard.

Between the suggested packages:

• dia: to export Dia shapes;
• libsvg-perl: to import .txt files (txt2svg extension);
• libxml-xql-perl: to use the shadow effect;
• python-uniconvertor: enables several import/export extensions;
• pstoedit: to work with eps files;
• ruby: there are several extensions written in ruby;

This package adds a "Resize Images..." menu item to the context menu of all images. This opens a dialog where you set the desired image size and file name. A click on "Resize" finally resizes the image(s) using ImageMagick's convert tool.

pstoedit převádí PostScript a PDF soubory do množství editovatelných vektorových formátů jako: tgif, xfig, PDF graphics, gnuplot formát, idraw, MetaPost, GNU Metafile, PIC, Kontour and flattened PostScript.

Scribus is an open source desktop page layout program with the aim of producing commercial grade output in PDF and Postscript.

Scribus can be used for many tasks; from brochure design to newspapers, magazines, newsletters and posters to technical documentation.

Scribus supports professional DTP features, such as CMYK color and a color management system to soft proof images for high quality color printing, flexible PDF creation options, Encapsulated PostScript import/export and creation of 4 color separations, import of EPS/PS and SVG as native vector graphics, Unicode text including right to left scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew via freetype. Graphic formats which can be placed in Scribus as images include PDF, Encapsulated Post Script (eps), TIFF, JPEG, PNG and XPixMap(xpm), and any bitmap type supported by QT4.

If you need to use the render frame install the texlive-latex-recommended package (suggested).

xsane může být spuštěn buď samostatně nebo přes program GIMP. Pokud je spuštěn samostatně, xsane může ukládat obrázky do souboru v různých formátech, také může sloužit jako frontend pro faxovací program, nebo posílat obrázky na tiskárnu.

SANE znamená "Scanner Access Now Easy" a používá aplikační programové rozhraní (API), které umožňuje standardizovaný přístup k libovolnému rastrovému skeneru (plochý skener, ruční skener, video a digi kamery, atd.). Standard SANE je zdarma, diskuze a jeho vývoj je k dispozici pro všechny. Současný zdrojový kód je napsán tak, aby podporoval různé operační systémy, včetně GNU/Linuxu, OS/2, Win32 a další. K dispozici je pod licencí GNU General Public Licence (komerční aplikace a backendy jsou vítány také).

Yafray (Yet Another Free RAYtracer) is an advanced raytracing rendering system with many modern features including full radiosity and High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI) for scene lighting. It reads a simple XML-based scene definition file, and can be used as a renderer for Blender.
